Ukraine is the only former Republic of the Soviet Union that is currently visa free. To go to neighboring Russia, for example, you need to obtain a costly visa in advance, which takes time, and can be restrictive and inconvenient. Traveling to Ukraine is easy. You get a 3-month stamp at the border, and that’s it. The prices in Crimea and Ukraine as a whole are reasonable.
